The headline of the article is “What every would-be teacher should know before they qualify”. The author of the article is an anonymous teacher - the writer of this piece has chosen to remain anonymous to protect the identities of the staff that she refers to. The article is taken from the newspaper The Guardian. It was published Thursday 20 November 2014.
The article is devoted to the problem of young teachers training in Britain. According to the text, some courses provide such short placements in schools that the young teachers are being set up to fail. The author stresses that no amount of advice could make up for the lack of training that many young teachers have experienced. The author is confident that schools do not have the skill base or time to support young teachers who are not prepared for teaching. The routes into teaching are now often so short (a year or two) that there doesn’t seem to be the time needed to study the pedagogy well enough. Teaching is a craft that takes time to learn and develop. It takes practice and freedom to reflect on what works and why it works. In conclusion, the author of the article says that it is necessary to be unbelievably emotionally and physically strong to be able to make a difference to children’s lives. You will get to know them and support them and even when you feel you are failing, the children will know you are there for them and that will make the difference.
I find this article very interesting and useful not only for English teachers, but for Russian ones too. I think that Russian young teachers also often face the problem of lack of practice. As a result, they feel shaky, afraid to fail. I absolutely agree with the author of the article, that even excellent knowledge of the theory of pedagogy can’t replace teaching practice.
So, the article suggests some very important questions: what can help teachers get more practical training? How long should be the practice periods for teachers feel confident working with children?

I found this article useful for me, because I will be a teacher in my future. Unfortunately, I`ve heard from people, that student of pedagogical university have no much time to practice before. And it influence on their qualification.
ОтветитьУдалитьEvery student can solve this problem himself. For example, he or she can try to be a tutor, it is good practice. It is an opportunity to strengthen knowledge of the subject and practice of communication with children. As for the time, it is person question I think. Because everyone need various amount of time.
I am interested in this article because I study at the Pedagogical University and in the future I will face teaching. I believe that the practice is necessary but the amount depends on the person. _ То gain some experience before you are going to teach in school, you should tutoring probably _ in order to understand what the gaps in knowledge are and what should be learnt. Also it would be a good idea to teach under observation of an experienced teacher for some time.
ОтветитьУдалитьI find this article very useful, it covers some initial and essential aspects of young teachers` work. I think that the best way to get more practical training is to try to work as a tutor. In this case a young teacher can try different methods and get into the way of working with children. I think that the length of practice periods depends on the personality but it should be no shorter than 1-2 years to adapt.
ОтветитьУдалитьI share the author's opinion about the mentioned topic, because teaching can not be learned only from books.I think that most of all teacher training should be more practical at university. Students of pedagogical specialty should be engaged in practice to learn how to interect with the pupils and make the learning process successful. And also the fledgelings must see how highly experts teach at least for a year. So, such programs could be made, where the fledgelings will be practice and work simalteneously with the high-qualified teachers.
ОтветитьУдалитьI find this article also very useful for me! My future profession is to be a good teacher. I think every people choose for himself how he/she how they could practice their knowledge and how to present them for students. But in our age we can unite practice and work, many students do this!
